Horses with white coats covered with leopard spots are ancient. Paleolithic cave paintings in Europe depict wild horses with dark spots on a white base coat. When the Spanish arrived in America, they brought fine horses, some of which were leopard also the Russians introduced the Leopard horse to the northwest to add to the gene pool. The Nez Perce tribe in the northwest prized the Leopard Horse in particular. In the Northwest, the Leopard Horse is bred to become the Appaloosa, a mainstay of the Native American people.
