1936 Hobo Nickel “Squirreling It Away” by Howard Thomas

Posted on July 24, 2017

“The hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The US nickel coin was favored because of its size, thickness, and relative softness.

Howard Thomas has carving hobo nickels for 8 years and doing scrimshaw for about 25.

This is a carved 1936 hobo nickel. This little squirrel is gathering nuts for later. We call it “Squirreling It Away”!

Please look closely at the photos. Returns are accepted only if the item is not as described and we take very good photos to make sure you know what you are bidding on! ” eBay Link
