1937 Hobo Nickel “Happy Thanksgiving” by Howard Thomas

“The hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The US nickel coin was favored because of its size, thickness, and relative softness.

Howard Thomas has been carving hobo nickels for 8 years and doing scrimshaw for about 25.

This is a carved 1937 hobo nickel. This Thanksgiving, we have a lot to be thankful for. As does this turkey! He still has his feathers! We call it simply. “Happy Thanksgiving”!
