1935 Hobo Nickel “Steampunk Fish” by tmahr

“Hobo Nickel, Steampunk Fish 24K Gold and Copper inlay 1935 S Buffalo Nickel, by tmaher 2017.

A steam punk FISH with 24K gold and copper inlay by tom maher

Steampunk refers to a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. It may, therefore, be described as neo-Victorian. Steampunk perhaps most recognisably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era’s perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Vern.

Nice eye appeal, decorative, bright with fine line detail.

The hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The nickel, because of its size, thickness, and relative softness, was a favored coin for this purpose. However, the term hobo nickel is generic, as carvings have been made from many different denominations. Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was particularly popular among hobos, hence the name.

Thank you for looking.” Click for more →
